These are a few of My Frugal Recipes : a New Feature on Poor Mom . Hope you enjoy.
Split Pea and Ham Soup
1 cup chopped onion .Free Glaziers
3 Carrots Free Glaziers
1 teaspoon vegetable oil Pantry
1 pound dried split peas .89 x 2 Smiths
1 pound ham Steak Bone in 2.39 Smiths
salt and pepper to taste Pantry
Chop up your Ham Steak into bite size pieces Reserve Bone
Saute with Onion about a minute
Add cleaned Dry Peas, Chopped Carrots to Onion and Ham mix , throw your bone back in.
Pour 2 cups H2O to 1 Cup Peas. Cook Covered 2 hours on Medium until peas are disintegrating. Stir occassionally to prevent sticking/ burning . Add H2O as necessary to mintain a thickness you prefer. If you like a creamier soup use about a 1/2 cup of Potato Buds at the end and mash peas a bit with a potato masher.
I serve this with Biscuits or a loaf of warm bread ( Whatever's Cheaper! )
