Saving Money on Beef
Beef is pretty expensive for most folks and even though they enjoy a good steak now and then , rarely buy the meat . According to the Beef council it's more important to select beef you can afford by price per serving vs price per pound. This might save you money and change your perspective on buying beef . You can also try saving money by
Buying beef that is about to expire in the clearance section . As long as it is frozen or consumed by the date marked it's still good . Fresh and Easy is the BEST place to look for "same day" meat.
Cruise the Alcohol section for meat coupons ...especially in Summer
Mix beef with other goodies like veggies , bread and or other meats. A burger or meatloaf can be doubled in size by adding some garbanzo beans (smashed), bread and soft veggies like peas.
I make a yummy "Poor Man's Burger " by adding 1/4 cup Ketchup , 5 slices bread ( I perfer rye or pumpernickle for flavor) , small chunks of onion and pepper ( buy a bag of the frozen mix add about 1 1/2 cups), worchester sauce or A1 3-5 tbl , pepper and garlic powder to taste. Mix and form patties. It will be THE most juicy and flavorful burger you'll ever have ! You can make 8 good sized burgers from this recipe and 1 lb of beef !
