Steak Pinwheels

Most items will come from your pantry but you can get great deals on steak and feta at Albertson's , smith's and Vons Right Now. Just buy a the cheapest boneless cut you can..you'll need to pound it out anyhow.

1/4 cup olive oil

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup red wine

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 1/2 boneless cross rib STEAK (2.99 @ Albertsons) , pounded to 1/2 inch thickness

1 clove garlic, peeled

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs

1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry

1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

In a large resealable bag, combine the olive oil, soy sauce, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, lemon juice, 1 clove of garlic, Italian seasoning and pepper. Squeeze the bag to blend well. Pierce the flank steak with a knife, making small slits about 1 inch apart. Place the steak into the bag, and seal. Refrigerate overnight to marinate.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Crush the remaining clove of garlic on a cutting board with a large chef's knife. Sprinkle the salt over the garlic, and scrape with the blunt side of the knife to make a paste.
Remove the steak from the bag, and discard marinade. Spread the garlic paste over the top side of the steak. Place layers of chopped onion, bread crumbs, spinach, and cheese over the garlic. Roll the steak up lengthwise, and secure with kitchen twine or toothpicks. Place the roll in a shallow glass baking dish.
Bake uncovered for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until the internal temperature of the roll is at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees F) in the center. Let stand for 5 minutes to set, then slice into 1 inch slices to serve.Jami

I'm excited ( near estatic) that a new grocery store , Glazier's Food Marketplace, is opening near my home. Why the excitement you might be wondering , when there are 4 seperate multinational food chain stores within a 1.5 mile radius of my house ? The excitement stems from the fact that Glazier's is NOT a multinational chain , it's ( sigh) an independent grocery store.

Growing up in Central New York we had, in my opinion , the King of Independent grocery stores , Wegmans. If you haven't had the good fortune of shopping in a Wegmans , then sorry, but you have never grocery shopped . Wegman's is devoid of the harsh lighting , doppleganger layout, incompetant staff, and low grade store brands you find with some of the bigger groceries. Wegmans does everything right ! Wether you're running in for a bottle of wine or shopping for a family of 10 you'll get everything you need and nothing you don't ( like bad service, exasperatingly long lines, or poor selection) . I'm sincerely hoping Glazier's will be HALF as good as Wegman's is.

In honor of Wegman's my bargain meal is pulled straight from their website . It's delicious with both Chicken and Pork and is great for grilling out . Try marinating pork ribs 24 hours and throwing them on the grill with this recipe for any summer gathering and , trust me , everyone will rave .

Albertson's Value Recipes

I need to clean out the pantry this week , so it's as good a time as any to intro one of my pantry cleaning cleaning secrets ..The Waste Watcher Pizza . Aside form using ingredients on hand , and letting nothing go to waste , this is an excellent way to hide veggies so your kiddos will eat them up . I am convinced anyone can eat anything if it comes in Pizza form !!Pizza Dough Recipe Link ( in case you want to get rid of some flour :)

Waste Watcher Pizzas
Mac and Cheese Pizza
You can boil up odd and end pastas , add Cheese ( even some blue cheese dressing if there's a little left over in a bottle) . If you have a couple hot dogs ( or bologna , salami or ham) throw that on top too . I always seem to have a 1/4 bag of peas left over in the back of my freezer at any given moment so I toss those on top as well. sliced yellow onions and minced garlic , salt and pepper ...pop her in the oven and you're ready for a really kid friendly Pizza . Oh yeah , if you just have a smidge of Ketchup left , decorate your pizza with a smiley face , scribbles , whatever !

Veggie Delight
Like I said ,I can always find partially used bags of frozen veggies in my freezer. Maybe you also have some canned veggies about to reach their expiration. Throw all veggies ( frozen not boiled) on top of the pizza . Top with a good strong cheese like an Italian blend and maybe a little Feta or goat cheese , veggies that are out of site are also out of mind. You can also add left over meats like Turkey or Chicken . Grlic , Salt and Pepper to taste.
